Statement of Faith

Learning CTR Online beliefs:

  • The Triune God is one God, not three gods (Mark 12:29). God is One essentially, but operates economically as three "persons": The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (John 14-17). God is perfect. He, as the Creator of the universe, is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient.

  • The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, represent God's written word, inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16-17), without error in the original writings, and unveiling the complete revelation of God's economy and will regarding the salvation of men. It is the Divine and final authority for Christian faith and life, including the Body of Christ, His church (1 Timothy 2:4-6; 3:9,15; Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:11-22; 3:2-10). The scriptures, as the God-inspired written word enlivened and enlightened by the Spirit to us, are the living Word of God, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the dividing of soul and spirit, proficient to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart, and able to lay us bare before God (Hebrews 4:12-13).

  • Jesus Christ is the perfect man and infinite God. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary (incarnation) [Matthew 1, Luke 2], He lived a perfect human life for approximately 33 1/2 years as God manifested in the flesh (John 1:1, 14; 1 Timothy 3:15-16). He was crucified as the perfect Lamb of God, whose shed blood offers all mankind eternal redemption from their sins (if they believe in Him) [Hebrews 9:11-14]. He resurrected from the dead after three days, becoming the life-giving Spirit who can indwell all His believers (1 Corinthians 15:3, 45; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18). He ascended into heaven, where he is seated at the right hand of the Majesty on High (Colossians 3:1) as our High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-16) and Advocate (1 John 2:1), and He is walking amidst the lampstands (the church) [Revelation 1-3].

  • The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, and to sanctify and convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer to be conformed to the image of Christ as manifested in godly living and service (good works) [John 14-17].

  • Man was created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27), but fell into sin and is, therefore, lost for eternity (Romans 3:10-26; 5:12-21). Only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord can salvation and spiritual life be obtained (Acts 4:12).

  • The shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and, thus, become children of God (Romans 8:1-17).

  • We receive the Holy Spirit at regeneration (1 Peter 1:23) based on the Lord's resurrection (John 20:22). Believers are to live and walk in and by the Spirit (Galatians 5:13-27) with the goal of every thought being taken captive unto the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

  • God in Christ is the Author and Perfector of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), but each believer must work out his own salvation cooperating with God as He operates to work and to will His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13).

  • The greatest commandment set forth by God and Jesus Christ is love towards God and others (Mark 12:29-31; Matthew 22:37-40). This requires us to forgive as we are forgiven (Matthew 6:14-15; Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13). This is accomplished based on the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ and our cooperation with the Spirit to put off the old man (in our daily life), renew the mind (change our old man narratives), and put on the new man which is beautifully described in Colossians 3:12-17, Galatians 5:22-23, and 2 Peter 1:5-7.

  • To know Jesus Christ experientially and subjectively we must hear His voice and obey according to the Spirit, not according to the flesh or self (Matthew 7:20-28; John 10:27; Romans 6:16-17).

A disciple of Jesus Christ lives in loving obedience to Jesus’ commands & encourages others to do likewise.

The church is a group of people who live in loving obedience to Jesus’ commands, encouraging each other to do likewise.
